How to choose RV or boat storage
- Measure first. Use overall length including the hitch/tongue and any rear rack, and height including A/C units, antennas or a boat tower. Ask whether the listed space size is the usable length.
- Covered vs. enclosed vs. open. A canopy blocks sun and hail; an enclosed garage also blocks dust, wind and prying eyes. Decide based on how long the rig sits and what you'd otherwise spend on covers and repairs.
- Power. “Electric” usually means a low-amp outlet for a battery tender, not a full hookup. Ask about amperage, extra fees, and whether running a fridge or A/C is allowed.
- Access. Check gate hours against when you actually leave for trips. Early departures and late returns matter.
- Security. Look for perimeter fencing, coded entry and exit, cameras that record, lighting and an on-site manager. Ask what their insurance requires of you.
- Maneuvering. Pull-through spaces and wide paved aisles make big rigs and solo parking much easier.
- Extras. Dump station, water fill, wash bay, air and propane can save a stop on every trip.
- Contract terms. Ask about minimum terms, admin fees, deposits, required insurance, documents (registration/title) and how rate increases work.
- Waitlists. Popular covered sizes can sell out. Ask to be added to a waitlist and when spaces usually open up.
Orlando-specific tips
- Covered spaces go fast. When we checked, A&H Storage had most of its covered spaces waitlisted, Park a Lot 247 had both covered sizes waitlisted, Outrig's enclosed units were waitlist only, and JVD RV Storage (15 covered spots) showed one space open. Get on a waitlist early if you need a roof.
- Check gate hours before you sign. Outrig, Park a Lot 247, Rental Spaces Inc, StorQuest Apopka, Safe and Secure (Kissimmee), Top Notch and Playtime Storage list 24/7 or 24-hour access. A&H Storage, A Space Storage, Go Store It Clermont and Devon Lake Mary are open 6am-10pm, All Aboard Clermont 5am-10pm, and Condev 5am-11pm (24-hour access can be arranged in advance).
- Read the terms. Park a Lot 247 doesn't rent for less than 3 months and adds 6.5% sales tax. Playtime Storage needs 15 days' notice and proof of ownership. A&H Storage adds a 5 ft buffer to your vehicle length when sizing covered spaces.
- Power isn't always included. A&H Storage includes trickle-charge power with every space and Go Store It lists a power outlet with its covered spaces. Playtime Storage charges $25/mo for electric, and Park a Lot 247 charges extra for 30/50 amp (an optional $40 power fee on enclosed units).
- Some lots price by the foot. Top Notch RV Storage in Clermont charges $4.50 per foot open and $7.50 per foot covered (20 ft minimum), and Faria's Sunset Ranch and Oviedo Boat and RV use length tiers. Measure bumper to tongue, or bow to trailer tongue for boats.
- Want to dump and rinse on the way out? Outrig and Boat RV Auto Storage of West Orange list dump stations, and All Aboard Clermont has dump and wash stations. A&H Storage, Condev and Park a Lot 247 have wash or rinse stations.

What's the difference between covered, enclosed and outdoor storage?
Outdoor (open) spaces are a paved or gravel parking spot. Covered spaces add a roof (canopy) but are open on the sides. Enclosed or indoor storage is a garage-style unit with walls and a door, sometimes temperature-controlled. Protection and price generally rise in that order.
Can I keep my RV plugged in?
Some facilities offer power at the space, usually low-amp outlets meant for battery tenders/trickle chargers, not full hookups. Use the “Electric” filter, then ask the facility what amperage is provided and whether there's an extra fee.
Do RV storage facilities have waitlists?
